A former US soldier obsessed with witchcraft will be put to death by lethal injection Tuesday — 19 years after raping and killing a woman he thought had put a spell on him.
William Emmet LeCroy, 50, is set to die at the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, for the murder of Joann Lee Tiesler on Oct. 7, 2001.
LeCroy’s lawyers unsuccessfully petitioned President Trump to commute his sentence to life in prison, citing in part the death of his brother, Georgia State Trooper Chad LeCroy, who was killed during a routine traffic stop in 2010, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“The pain and sorrow felt by the LeCroy family at potentially losing two of their sons is unimaginable,” the petition said.
LeCroy broke into Tiesler’s home in Cherrylog, Georgia, waiting for her to return from a shopping trip. When she walked through the door, LeCroy blasted her with a shotgun, bound and raped her. Then he slashed her throat and repeatedly stabbed her in the back.
He later told investigators that he believed Tiesler, 30, may have been his old babysitter he called Tinkerbell, who he claimed sexually molested him as a child. He thought that killing Tiesler — whom he knew as a relative’s neighbor — would reverse a hex she put on him.
But after her slaying, he realized that wasn’t true.
Authorities found a note LeCroy wrote before his arrest, in which he asked Tiesler for forgiveness.
“You were an angel and I killed you,” it read. “I am a vagabond and doomed to hell.”
LeCroy joined the Army at 17 but was soon discharged for going AWOL. He became obsessed with witchcraft during a previous stint in prison for burglary, child molestation and other charges.
LeCroy will be the sixth federal inmate executed by lethal injection this year at Terre Haute.
