This footage (at the link)from December 27, 2007 depicts the assassination of twice former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan’s garrison city of Rawalpindi. Twelve years on, Benazir’s son Bilawal Bhutto has held a mass public rally to remind people in Pakistan of how her mother’s assassins have gone scot-free.
The Pakistan Peoples Party, the country’s main opposition party headed by Benazir’s son, has accused former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf of masterminding Benazir’s assassination.
A UN Investigation team also implicated the former military dictator General Musharraf in Benazir’s murder which led to his trial on terrorism charges in 2011.
There have been over 300 hearings in the trial. However, the former military dictator has skipped all of the proceedings except on the day he was indicted by the anti terrorism court in 2014. He has been in self-exile for years and refused to appear in the court.
General Musharraf has been at the center of a series of allegations linking him to the murder of his political rivals as well as committing high treason for imposing martial law twice in Pakistan.
The powerful Pakistani military has been supporting its former chief who was recently sentenced to death in the high treason case. A judge even ordered his corpse to be dragged to parliament and hanged for three days if he dies before his execution.
Here is a BBC vid on the assassination.
