In Messiah’s name: for those with eyes to see and ears to hear.
For Some Hebrew Israelites- Christian Torah-keepers and the Jews, the day of Atonement began last evening (Sept.29) at sunset and it ended at the going down of the sun this eve (Sept.30). During that time, one was to fast (afflict one’s soul) – no water or food- for that 24 hr period. The Jews observe it for a 25hr. period.
The Day of Atonement is a Sabbath rest, a holy day, which can fall on any day of the week during the 7 month (Sept- Oct). No work is to be carried out during that time. It is one of seven Feast Days as outlined in the Older Testament book of Leviticus 16: 3-34 and 23: 27-33).
Here’s a very brief background on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) as recorded in the Older Testament.
In the book of Leviticus, on the Day of Atonement, two goats were presented in the Temple in Jerusalem. One was chosen by lot to be killed and offered to the God of Israel.
The priests laid their hands on the head of the live goat and placed all the sins of Israel on it and this live “scapegoat” (Azazel) was then taken into the wildness, by a fit man, and apparently was set free to roam.
Messiah, the true son of the Creator-God (I AM), makes atonement for our sins as indicated in the book of Hebrews Chapter 10. He is our mediator and high priest.
Psalm 51 is a great confession to God for the forgiveness of our sins.
Peace, blessings and protection to all who love the truth and hate the lies and deceptions.
